Cooktop Repair in Charlotte, NC

One dead burner is a slow problem. A cracked glass top or a burner that won't shut off is an urgent one. We repair gas, electric and induction cooktops in homes and businesses across Charlotte, NC and nearby towns.

We test the burners, elements, switches and control boards, find the part that failed, and quote the repair.

Common cooktop problems we fix

These are the likely causes, not a diagnosis. We confirm the cause with tests before we replace any part.

Gas burner won't light, or keeps clicking

Likely cause
Wet or dirty burner ports, a cap out of place, a cracked igniter, or a failed spark switch or module.
What we do
We clean and dry the burner, seat the cap, and test the igniter, switch and module.

Gas flame is yellow, uneven or lifting off

Likely cause
Clogged burner ports, a cap that is off center, or a gas supply problem.
What we do
We clean the ports and check the burner setup. If the flame stays wrong, we check the gas supply side.

Electric radiant burner won't heat

Likely cause
A burned-out element, a failed limiter, or a bad burner switch or control.
What we do
We test the element and the switch that powers it and replace the one that failed.

Burner stays on high

Likely cause
A burner switch or relay stuck closed.
What we do
Switch it off at the breaker. We test and replace the switch or relay.

Cracked glass top

Likely cause
A dropped pan, a hot pan set on a cold spill, or stress over time.
What we do
Stop using it. We replace the glass or the full top, depending on the model.

Induction zone doesn't detect the pan

Likely cause
Cookware that is not magnetic, a pan too small for the zone, or a failed sensor or power board.
What we do
We test with a known induction pan, then test the power board and coil.

Touch controls don't respond

Likely cause
The control lock is on, the glass is wet or dirty, or the touch control board failed.
What we do
We check the lock and the board, and replace the board if it failed.

Cooktop safety

  • If you smell gas, leave the home now. Do not flip light switches or use your phone inside. Call your gas company's emergency line or 911 from outside.
  • A cracked glass top can expose live parts. Switch off the cooktop's breaker and do not use it.
  • Burner won't turn off? Switch it off at the breaker and keep pans and towels away from it.
  • A yellow, lazy gas flame can mean the burner is not burning cleanly. Stop using that burner until it is checked.

Quick checks before you book

  • After a spill, let a gas burner dry for a day before you decide it is broken.
  • Check the cooktop lock or control lock setting.
  • Induction: if a magnet sticks firmly to the bottom of the pan, the pan should work.
  • Check the breaker for electric and induction models.

What we work on

  • Gas cooktops and rangetops
  • Electric smooth-glass (radiant) cooktops
  • Electric coil cooktops
  • Induction cooktops

Cooktop repair questions

Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired?

The glass cannot be patched safely. It gets replaced, either the glass alone or the full top, depending on the model. Sometimes a new cooktop makes more sense. Call us and we will help you decide.

Why won't my induction cooktop work with my pan?

Induction only heats magnetic cookware. Hold a magnet to the bottom of the pan. If it does not stick firmly, the pan will not work. The pan also needs to cover most of the zone.

Why does my gas burner keep clicking?

Moisture from a spill or from cleaning is the usual cause. Let it dry. If the clicking keeps going, a spark switch or igniter may have failed.

Do you repair induction cooktops?

Yes. We repair gas, electric and induction cooktops.

Is a cooktop worth repairing?

Igniters, switches, elements and burner parts are usually worth repairing. A cracked top or a failed main board on an older cooktop is where replacing can make more sense. Call us and we will help you decide.
