We repair over-the-range and built-in microwaves in homes across Charlotte, NC and nearby towns. These are the ones mounted under a cabinet or set into the wall, where a replacement means new mounting, venting and trim.
For a small countertop microwave, replacing it often makes more sense than a repair. If that is your case, we tell you before you spend money.
These are the likely causes, not a diagnosis. We confirm the cause with tests before we replace any part.
Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Maytag, KitchenAid, Bosch, Kenmore and Electrolux, plus most other major brands.
Star Appliances Repair is an independent repair company, not affiliated with these brands.
We ask what the microwave is doing and check the controls.
We test the door switches, fuses and high-voltage parts with the power safely off.
We show you what failed and quote the repair, or tell you if replacing it makes more sense.
If you approve, we fix it and run a heating test before we leave.
Call us and we will go over the problem, the visit and the price on the phone.
For over-the-range and built-in microwaves, often yes, because replacing one means new mounting and sometimes new trim. For a basic countertop microwave, replacing it usually makes more sense. Call us and we will help you decide.
A part in the high-voltage circuit has failed: the magnetron, the diode, the capacitor or a high-voltage fuse. These parts are dangerous to test without training.
No. Stop using it. Sparking usually means a burned waveguide cover or metal inside, and it can damage the microwave further.
Many over-the-range microwaves turn the vent fan on when they sense heat from the cooktop below. That is normal. If it stays on with the cooktop off and cool, something in the control has failed.
Yes. We work on combination units and check both parts when one fails.
