Washer Repair in Charlotte, NC

A washer that stops mid-cycle leaves you with a drum full of wet clothes and no plan. We repair top-load and front-load washers in homes, apartments and laundromats across Charlotte, NC and nearby towns.

Most washer problems trace back to the drain pump, the lid switch or door lock, the suspension, or a worn belt or coupler. We test the parts, explain what failed, and quote the repair.

Common washer problems we fix

These are the likely causes, not a diagnosis. We confirm the cause with tests before we replace any part.

Water left in the drum

Likely cause
A clogged drain pump filter, a kinked or clogged drain hose, or a failed drain pump. Socks, coins and hair ties are common culprits.
What we do
We clear the filter and hose, then test the pump. If the pump motor is dead or jammed, we replace it.

Won't spin, or spins slowly

Likely cause
A washer will not spin until it drains and the lid or door locks. A drain problem, a failed lid switch or door lock, a worn drive belt or motor coupler, or a bad control can all stop the spin.
What we do
We check the drain, the lock and the drive parts to find which one is stopping the spin.

Leaking water

Likely cause
On front-loaders, a torn rubber door boot. On any washer, loose or cracked fill hoses, a leaking pump, or a worn tub seal.
What we do
We trace where the water comes from, replace the hose, boot or pump, and run a test cycle.

Shaking hard or walking across the floor

Likely cause
An unbalanced load, an uneven floor, or worn shock absorbers, springs or suspension rods.
What we do
We level the washer and replace worn suspension parts.

Loud roaring or grinding during the spin

Likely cause
Worn tub bearings, usually after water got past the tub seal.
What we do
We confirm the bearing noise and give you the price. Bearing jobs take a lot of labor, so on an older washer we also tell you if replacing it makes more sense.

Door won't unlock

Likely cause
Water still in the drum, or a failed door lock.
What we do
We drain the washer, open the door safely, and replace the lock if it failed.

Won't fill, or fills slowly

Likely cause
Supply valves that are closed or kinked, clogged inlet screens, or a failed water inlet valve.
What we do
We clean the inlet screens and test the inlet valve.

Musty smell

Likely cause
Mold and soap buildup in the front-load door boot, the drain filter or the detergent drawer.
What we do
We clean the drain filter and boot and show you how to keep the smell from coming back.

If your washer is leaking

  • Turn off both water valves behind the washer.
  • Unplug the washer before you mop around it.
  • If water is coming through a ceiling under an upstairs laundry room, shut off the water first.
  • Never force a locked door open. The lock keeps hands away from a spinning drum.

Quick checks before you book

  • Make sure both water valves behind the washer are fully open.
  • On a front-loader, the drain pump filter is usually behind a small panel at the bottom front. Put towels down first. A lot of water can come out.
  • Check that the drain hose is not kinked behind the machine or pushed too far into the drain pipe.
  • If it shakes, try a smaller, even load and check that the washer sits level on all four feet.

What we work on

  • Top-load washers with an agitator
  • Top-load washers with an impeller (no center post)
  • Front-load washers
  • Stacked washer and dryer units

Washer repair questions

Why does my front-load washer smell?

Front-loaders seal tight, so moisture stays inside. Leave the door and detergent drawer open after each wash, wipe the rubber boot, clean the drain filter every few months, and run a hot cleaning cycle once a month. Use HE detergent, and less of it than the cap suggests.

How do I drain a washer that won't drain?

Turn it off and unplug it. On a front-loader, open the small panel at the bottom front, set out towels and a shallow pan, and slowly unscrew the drain filter. On a top-loader, bail the water out with a bucket. Then book a repair so we can find out why it stopped draining.

Is it worth fixing an older washer?

Drain pumps, door locks, lid switches, belts and inlet valves are usually worth fixing. Tub bearings or a failed control board on an older washer are where replacing can make more sense. It comes down to the washer's age and what failed. Call us and we will help you decide.

Do you fix stacked washer and dryer units?

Yes. Stacked units and laundry centers are common in apartments and townhomes. Tell us it is stacked when you book so we can plan for the space.

What does the error code on my washer mean?

Each brand uses its own codes. Tell us the code when you book. It often points to the drain, the door lock or the water supply, which helps us plan the repair.
